Forsyth signs new Hearts deal

21 May 2024

Hearts Women is delighted to confirm that Monica Forsyth has signed a new one-year contract with the club with the option for a further year included.

Forsyth made a big impression in maroon when she first joined the club on loan from Celtic in 2020, before making the move to Gorgie permanent the following summer.

Her versatility has been a key factor for the women in maroon towards the end of the current season, playing in defensive and attacking midfield roles, as well as at wing back.

It’s been a difficult spell for the 20-year-old, having initially spent a year on the sidelines with cruciate ligament damage, then requiring surgery on a meniscus root tear, which ruled her out for a further eight months, before returning in February 2024.

It’s all about the future now for Forsyth, who becomes the latest of this season’s successful side to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, manager Eva Olid said:

“Monica has had a difficult time with two big injuries, but she has shown a great determination to come back stronger. She has that professional mindset, and she is so ambitious about her future in the game.

“She has the ability to play in different positions as she understands the game so well. We know she is going to play a big part in us achieving our objectives moving forward, so I’m delighted she will be staying with us.

Women’s Head of Recruitment Sean Burt added:

“In such a short career, Monica has shown great resilience and determination to bounce back from two serious injuries, something that is reflected in the way she plays the game.

“A fantastic player with such a bright career ahead of her, highlighted by her recent call-up to represent the Scotland Under-23s and as a club, we want to continue to nurture the best domestic talent available.

“She has a brilliant attitude and a burning desire to reach the top of the game. I’ve no doubt that she has the potential to do exactly that, so it’s great that she’s happy at Hearts and has signed a new contract.”

Congratulations, Monica!
