Football Dept Updates
28 May 2026Heart of Midlothian can confirm the following updates to the club’s football department.
Gordon Marshall will join the club as its new goalkeeping coach. The hugely experienced former Scotland goalkeeper will take up his position in June, leaving his current role at St Johnstone.
Gordon enjoyed a successful playing career with the likes of Falkirk, Celtic, Kilmarnock and Motherwell before hanging up his gloves.
The son of Hearts legend Gordon Snr, he’s previously worked with Head Coach Derek McInnes at St Johnstone and Aberdeen.
Joining Gordon’s staff is Jamie MacDonald. The Scottish Cup-winning goalkeeper has retired from the game following two years with Hearts’ B Team. He takes on the role of the club’s goalkeeping coach analyst.
Jamie will be responsible for preparing, supporting and developing the men’s first team and PDP goalkeepers through all levels of performance analysis and coaching.
Steve Walker has taken up the position of the club’s Head of Medical. Another individual with vast Scottish football experience, Steve spent 23 years at Rangers as their youth and reserve team physio between 2003 and 2011, and first team physio from 2011 until this month.
Steve will head up the club’s medical department, tasked with ensuring the first team is in peak physical condition ahead of a blockbuster 2026/27 campaign.
Finally, we can confirm that Head of Recruitment, Will Lancefield, will be moving on next month to take up a role with Luton Town.
Will joined the Jambos in 2021 and has played a key role in identifying targets and bringing them to the club, and then integrating Jamestown Analytics into the club’s recruitment structure.
Everyone at Hearts thanks Will for his efforts and wishes him all the best for the future.
