Eva: Everything positive right now

19 December 2022

The girls picked up another three points in their final league match of 2022 with a 2-1 victory over Partick Thistle at Petershill, a victory that maintains their 7-point lead in 4th spot.

First half strikes from Georgia Timms and Katie Rood had the girls on easy street before half time and they should really have been further ahead at the interval. In the second half, the girls showed another side to their game, as they rolled up their sleeves and ground out a crucial three points.

“We were wanting to come here and get three points, but we knew it was going to be a difficult game,” said Hearts manager, Eva Olid.

“We are a team that want to play football, but we knew coming here to a small pitch, it would be difficult because that is not something we are used to.

“When you want to play a possession game, you need space, but I think in the first half we did really well. We played some really nice football, in the second half, we lost a little bit of our style because they improved, but this is football, and we have to now go away and learn how to improve on that second half performance.

“We worked this week in training on defending high balls because we know they like to play long. I don’t think we were clever giving away lots of set play situations. We are here to improve though and this is a good example for us to take and analyse and try to improve from for our next performance.

“If somebody said to me at the beginning of the season, this is the position we would be in at this stage, I would not have believed them. It is much better than we expected, but this is because the girls are doing a really good job.

“Everything is just so positive for us just now. We must take this confidence into 2023 and try to keep learning and improving.”
