Eva: Confidence is high

09 May 2024

Hearts Women manager Eva Olid admits her side are going into Friday’s final Edinburgh derby of the season full of confidence, following a recent victory over their rivals and having secured fourth spot for the second consecutive season.

The Jambos came out on top in the last Edinburgh derby, winning 2-0, despite being down to ten players for the majority of the match and Olid insists the manner of the victory can spur her side on to another three points.

“After the win last time at home, we want to repeat the good performance we had that day with only ten players. We hope that this time we can compete 11 vs 11. The players have been training so well this week and we’re full of confidence.

“We can take confidence from the last match, but it’s a different match now. Hibs will be so motivated because they know the importance of finishing the season strong and winning a derby is one of the things that will help them do that.”

Sunday’s victory over Partick Thistle saw the Jambos wrap up fourth spot and while Olid admits there is an argument to say Hearts don’t have much to play for in the league now, the Spaniard is determined to finish as close to third placed Glasgow City as possible.

“There was so much pressure on the last match, as we knew it would help us a lot to finish fourth. If we lost that match, it would’ve been very difficult to finish fourth. This time, we go without pressure, but we are still ambitious, and I want to finish as close as possible to third place.

“That is one of the objectives I’ve said to the club, I want to really close the gap and this game is another opportunity to do that.”

It’s a 7:30pm kick-off at Meadowbank and tickets are available here
