Ellis targets more Hampden heroics
17 May 2022The Everton loanee has been a smash hit in Gorgie since arriving at Tynecastle in January – notching important goals as the Jambos romped to third and a return to the European stage.
It’s been a dreamy five months, but you’re unlikely to hear the big Englishman raising a toast to his achievements.
“It took me some time to settle but now, thanks to my coaches and teammates, I’ve been able to play to my strengths score a lot of goals,” he told the media ahead of the final.
“The last few months have really helped me kick on and show my ability. I never expected this; when I first arrived, I was only thinking of scoring goals and helping the team. To make it all the way to a cup final is a great feeling but we want to go all the way and win the cup.
Ellis was a Hampden hero last time out as we felled Hibs 2-1 at the national stadium, with Ellis unleashing a rocket past Matt Macey on the sixteenth minute.
It wouldn’t be a foolish thought to imagine the big man conjuring more of his magic against Rangers on Saturday, but signing off the season with a cup win remains at the forefront of Ellis’s thinking.
“My family and friends were in the crowd for the Hibs game, so it meant even more,” he smiled.
“To score a great goal on a big occasion was a good feeling. It would be great to score the winner, but I just want to help the team in any way. If someone else scores, that’s brilliant. All that matters is winning. Everyone’s hungry and ready for this one – we know we need to bring our A-game.
“It’s been a great season; a trophy would top it off. It’s going to be loud and there’ll be a big crowd, but we won’t be caught up in the occasion. We want to make the fans proud, because the support has been great this season through the highs and the lows.”
