Derek targets three from three at Forthbank
17 July 2025Derek McInnes is targeting three wins from three as the Jambos gear up for Saturday’s trip to Stirling Albion in the Premier Sports Cup.
The men in maroon maintained their 100% start to Group E on Tuesday night at Broadwood, sweeping aside Hamilton Academical 4-0 - with four different goalscorers and a clean sheet to boot.
Pleased with his side’s professionalism so far, the boss underlined the important for more of the same as Hearts look to top their group and progress to the latter stages of the competition.
“That's the intention. There's another challenge ahead,” he told Hearts TV.
“These games away from home can always be a bit trickier, but if your approach is right and if we can mirror a lot of what we've had in the last couple of games, then hopefully we can get a similar outcome. We want to try and be as polished and as clean as we can through the League Cup stages.
“Stirling Albion are normally 3-4-1-2. So, again, we just try and impose ourselves on the game. Whatever team we're playing, whatever shape we're up against, try and impose ourselves on that and try and make sure we carry a goal threat.
“The clean sheet against Hamilton was very important for us. We want to try and get more of that in the upcoming games, including Saturday.”
A bumper Hearts support travelled to North Lanarkshire on Tuesday night, and made their voices heard throughout the game with a noisy backing for Derek McInnes and the boys in maroon.
The gaffer says he’s been blown away by the supporter’s backing so early in his tenure as Hearts boss and reckons it’s up to the team to give fans what they want to see to keep that going ahead of our trip to Forthbank.
“I think the support is well-renowned about how they turn up in big numbers,” said Derek.
“It's important we try and get a winning Hearts team often this season, because when the fans are with the team and there’s that connection, then it's clearly going to help matters.
“They need to see a Hearts team willing to play properly. They need to see a Hearts team willing to run hard for them. A Hearts team always try to win the game.
“So, when we saw that on Tuesday night - two goals in the second half going into the Hearts end there - it was nice to see that. Hopefully we can have a lot more going forward.”
