Derek hails strong Foundations

19 March 2026

Derek McInnes provided a positive squad update as his team prepare to toast Foundation of Hearts Day on Saturday.

Dundee are the visitors to Gorgie on Saturday, with the Foundation of Hearts confirming during the week that total pledges from Hearts supporters have smashed the £20 million mark during the week.

Hailing the unrivalled backing of Hearts supporters everywhere, Derek says Jambos everywhere deserve to raise a glass after hitting such a groundbreaking milestone.

“It's a significant achievement”, he told the media ahead of the game.

“Everybody involved in that, from those involved at the very outset in getting the whole thing up and running, their perseverance and determination to make that happen. Everybody who's donated, they donate willingly because they believe in it and it's such a magnificent thing that goes on here at this club.

“Whether it's a big financial outlay or a small one. Whatever people are paying over a period of time, everybody at our club appreciates and is grateful for all that contribution. It actually beggars belief where the club would be without it. It's a huge milestone; and deserves to get celebrated and everybody involved in getting it running, or whoever's contributed, deserves a huge pat on the back and our gratitude.”

Elsewhere, Derek noted there were more reasons to be cheerful with Lawrence Shankland and Cammy Devlin primed to make their anticipated return to the matchday squad after recovering from their respective injuries.

Craig Gordon and Tomas Magnusson have travelled down to London to visit specialists as they look to step up their work towards fitness, with Beni Baningime and Harry Milne also ruled out.

“On Tomas, we've got confirmation of a broken cheekbone from Saturday,” said Derek.

“He's seen the specialist. From our point of view, it's the nature of the break, the specialist is quite confident that, on further consultation, maybe next week, that Romas could be available after Dundee with a mask on.

“Obviously, we don't play now after Dundee for a couple of weeks, so that's not as bad as it maybe first seemed. Harry Milne and Beni Baningime, we're hoping can do some work today or tomorrow.

“They haven't trained all week. Harry came off on Saturday with a little calf strain and Beni had an injection on Monday and young Finlay Pollock joined Cammy and Lawrence back training today.”
