Craig excited for the future

12 June 2025

Craig Gordon believes there is still more of his Hearts story to be written as he gears up for season 2025/26.

The legendary goalkeeper, who recently penned a one-year contract extension, is excited by the changes at the club over the summer, with the arrival of Derek McInnes as Head Coach and a host of new players.

Eager to play his part at the club he loves, Craig can’t wait to get back on the training pitch as the Jambos head into a new era.

“This is going to be my fifth season back now, which I don't think anybody imagined, probably not even myself when I came back here, that I'd still be here five years later,” he said. “I'm delighted to still be here, I can't wait for this season.

I think there's a lot to look forward to, especially in this first few months. I'm just so excited to get started.

“A lot of changes over the summer, a new management team coming in, a few new players have already signed.

“I think things are looking really good for the future, I still want to be part of it. I’m looking forward to getting in with the new guys and seeing how we're going to set up pre-season…always an exciting time when there's a bit of a turnaround.”

It was recently announced that Craig had been granted a testimonial year thanks to his incredible years of service to Hearts.

The crowning moment of the year will be when he welcomes former club Sunderland to Tynecastle on July 26th, and Craig admits it’s something of a dream come true for him.

“I'm very honoured, an absolute privilege to be awarded a testimonial year,” he said. “It's something you always probably dream of, being able to have that at the end of your career.

I never did think, when I walked in the door here, that I'd be still here nearly 25 years later with a testimonial match to look forward to. It really is things that dreams are made of.

“To do it here at Hearts, there couldn't be a better place to do it for me, for my family and everybody's so excited for it.

“I couldn't have picked a better club to have Sunderland come up here after everything they did for me and for the times that we had there, the five years in the Premier League.

“We had some good teams and some great results together. It's always great memories, fond memories from my time being down there in the Premier League.

“To have them come back up to Tynecastle and to be able to be part of this with me as well, there is no better team and fan base that I could possibly have picked.”
