Building on the positives

29 August 2025

Stuart Findlay is hoping Hearts can take the momentum from their late fightback against Motherwell into this weekend’s match against Livingston.

Claudio Braga came off the bench to bag a brace, after Harry Milne had pulled one back with a sweet volley as the match finished 3-3 in Gorgie.

The Jambos were below their best for much of the contest, but Findlay is confident the men in maroon can start the way they finished as they head to West Lothian on Saturday.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, the defender said:

“We know the first 60 minutes definitely wasn't good enough for our standards. We know what we expect, what the club expects, and we definitely fell short at the start of the game.

“But a game is 90 minutes long and to come back the way we did was obviously testament to what we've got and what we're about. At the end of the day, yeah, it's two points dropped, but it could have been a lot worse.

“I think with the way the game finished, it's something we can take into the next one and hopefully start the way that we finished.

“The first thing I said in the changing room was, if you win next week, this turns into a much bigger point. It turns out to be a very, very good point. To be sitting on ten points after four games would be absolutely magic.”

The Jambos know that with league leaders Celtic not in action until Sunday, three points in Livingston will send the Jambos back to the top of the table, but Findlay acknowledges a tough game is ahead.

“I think we've started the season really, really well. To be sitting where we are, with a chance to beat Livingston and go top of the league, I think it's a good position to be in. I think we need to take confidence from the results that we've had and realise that it's actually a good start we've had.

“Everybody knows what you're going to get with Livingston and credit to them, I think they've started playing a little bit more [football] than maybe what teams have said that they do in the past.

“But Davy is a really good manager, he's got a really well-drilled Livingstoneside and he's been there for a long time and knows what he's doing. I don't think any team has ever went there and said we had an easy day of it. We know it's going to be a really tough game, but we believe in what we've got here.

“We believe if we stick to the sort of principles the manager's put in place, we can come away with a big three points.

“We know there's going to be a massive Hearts support going through. It's incredible, the amount of tickets that we’ve sold, so we're going to be backed from the word go. I think it's really important that we start quick and if we get that, the result will follow.”
