Barrie wins SPFL Goal of the Month

13 February 2023

The Jambos forward’s match-winning strike against St Mirren on January 13th was voted the country’s top goal for the entire month.

A tremendous team goal, the boys in maroon worked the ball from goalkeeper through to the front, with Barrie himself playing a crucial part in driving the ball forward and playing a series of slick passes before being teed up by Andy Halliday and sending a pinpoint shot beyond St Mirren goalkeeper Trevor Carson and into the opposite corner of the net from just inside the box.

That goal was Barrie’s fourth of the season, and he spoke of his satisfaction when receiving his award.

“I’m delighted to accept this award on behalf of my team-mates because it was a real team goal,” he said. “We moved the ball all the way from back to front, passing into double figures, before I took the shot.

“I saw the space open up in front of me and just decided to go for it, so I was pleased when the ball hit the back of the net.

“We’re always trying to play on the front foot and attack, so hopefully we can score many more goals like this.”
