All eyes on Saints

04 August 2023

Hearts defender Frankie Kent spoke with the media ahead of Hearts’ cinch Premiership opener with St Johnstone.

The 27-year-old had his first taste of Tynecastle last weekend, when making his debut in the Jambos’ final pre-season outing against Leeds United and Kent admitted he is settling in well in his new surroundings.

“I’ve loved it,” he said. “I feel like I have settled in really quickly. The boys have been brilliant in terms of welcoming me in and I’ve enjoyed every second of it so far.

“It was a tough game. I thought we played well off the ball. We had a good shape. I thought we could’ve been a bit better on the ball, but we’ve touched on a few things this week, so hopefully we’ll get off to a good start on Saturday.

“There were over 15,000 fans there for a pre-season game last weekend. Having that many people there for a pre-season game was a new experience for me. I feel like I will thrive on that, so hopefully, it goes well, and I can perform and make all the fans happy.”

The men in maroon will be off to Trondheim next Thursday for their Europa Conference League 1st leg tie with Rosenborg, but Kent insists all focus is on St Johnstone, despite the exciting prospect that lies ahead.

“European football was a big pull for me to come up here. It’s something you don’t get in League One or League Two in England.

“It’s something I am really looking forward to, but our main focus right now is on Saturday.

“It’s the first league game, we know what we have to do, so we need to go out there and put a good performance in and then our attention will turn to Rosenborg.”
