Alex enjoying life at Tynecastle

24 November 2023

Alex Lowry admits he is enjoying his time in maroon as the Jambos gear up to face St Johnstone in the cinch Premiership.

The on-loan Rangers midfielder, who recently returned from time away with the Scotland Under-21s, believes he is starting to come into form at the perfect time ahead of the busy festive fixture list.

Speaking to the media, at the pre-match press conference, Lowry said:

“I’m really enjoying it here. I am starting to come into a bit of consistent form, so hopefully I can keep that going and keep helping the team to try and win games.

“This is my first full season of first team football. This is the most consistent amount of games I have played so my fitness is coming up and I’m starting to grasp what it takes to play first team football.”

Lowry was full of praise for head coach Steven Naismith, an attacking midfielder himself in his playing days, and he believes the more information he can pick up from him the better, as he continues his development.

“He has been very good with me,” Lowry added. “We are both attacking players, so he has helped me with a lot of stuff attacking-wise, but he has also played in the Premier League, so defensively as well, picking up wee bits from him is definitely going to benefit me in the future.

“When I was at Rangers in the youth-teams, you had the ball 90% of the time, so it was a change coming to Hearts, where at times we might not have the ball as much, but we’ve dominated a lot of the games we have been in and played some really good football.

“Consistency was an issue for a while, but now that is starting to come, and it’s been a good few weeks for us.

“You always want to be involved in creating chances. Against Motherwell, I think I created a fair few, so that’s up to me to keep creating chances for guys like Lawrence, Boycie and Kenneth to finish off.”
