Wilson extends contract

21 December 2024

Heart of Midlothian is delighted to confirm that James Wilson’s contract has been extended.

The Hearts Academy graduate, currently enjoying his breakthrough season in the first team, will keep pulling on the maroon jersey until the summer of 2026.

17-year-old James has already had a season to remember. He scored his first senior goal for the Jambos in a 4-0 win over St Mirren in October, then a week later bagged the equaliser in the Edinburgh derby at Easter Road.

This week he notched his first ever European goal, and in the process became the youngest goalscorer in both the club’s and UEFA Conference League history.

The popular striker will now continue to represent the boys in maroon into next season, and Head Coach Neil Critchley has spoken of his satisfaction at getting the Scotland U19 cap’s immediate future sewn up.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, Neil said: “It’s great news that James’ contract has been extended and it is fully merited.

“He’s made a big impact in the first team squad this season and has already scored some important goals.

“It is especially pleasing that James has come through our youth system and credit has to go to our academy coaching staff for guiding him to the point of being ready for top level football.

“James shows a willingness to learn and improve on the training pitch every day. We’re delighted he’ll continue his development at Hearts and hopefully he can keep giving the supporters some big moments to cheer in the future.”
