Wasn't to be22 May 2022
Extra time goals from Ryan Jack and Scott Wright were enough to sink the Jambos at the national stadium, and the manager knows it was a disappointing day for all of a maroon persuasion.
“I’m so disappointed. You come into every cup final trying to win it. No matter what happens in that game, it’s always hugely disappointing,” he said.
“You have to take it on the chin and move forward and try and reflect back that it’s been a very good season for us.
“We’ve come up from the Championship, secured third and guaranteed group stage European football. We got to a cup final but just couldn’t quite take that final wee step. I think a lot was made of Wednesday night’s exploits. Only four of five from that game played today, which gave them that freshness.
“I think we saw that the team could come here and compete. I thought we were the better team in spells. We had a few chances where we could have won the game, but it just wasn’t to be.
“Ellis had a good chance. The big man’s been outstanding for us. On another day it goes in but it wasn’t to be. I’ve got to thank the fans; thanks for coming to see us and thank you for the support throughout the season.
“We’ve had some hard times over the last couple of years but we’re getting there. We’re going to go away and keep building.”
