Match Report: Heart of Midlothian 1-0 Hibernian

04 October 2025

Hearts snatched a dramatic late victory in the first Edinburgh derby of the season.

After a hard-fought 90 minutes, Craig Halkett popped up at the back post to tuck away Sabah Kerjota's cross and send Tynecastle Park into raptures.

The victory sees the Jambos move five points clear at the top of the table with Hearts now recording three wins on the spin.

For the third consecutive match, Derek McInnes made no changes to his Hearts team. One notable bit of team news pre-match was the return of Craig Gordon to the bench; his first appearance of the campaign since a neck injury sidelined him in pre-season.

It was a typically whirlwind start to the derby, with Hibs going close first after eight minutes, Alexander Schwolow doing well to beat away Martin Boyle's strike from close range via a free-kick.

Edinburgh was still feeling the aftermath of Storm Amy, with the wind doing it's bit to keep quality low, but Kyziridis still found time to test Hibs with a ripper of a strike from distance after 22 minutes - but went straight through to the roof of the net.

There was plenty of effort on both sides, but chances were at a premium, with Oisin McEntee's second half header crashing into the gloves of Raphael Sallinger from the corner.

Hearts survived a massive scare on 63 minutes as Martin Boyle evaded the defence before clipping the ball over Schwolow, but a heroic goal line clearance from Stuart Findlay maintained parity.

The pendulum kept swinging, and a minute later, Claudio Braga got a low effort off at goal, but Sallinger got himself down again to push the ball away from danger.

With the game entering it's closing stages, Hearts rolled the dice.

Sabah Kerjota's cross from deep found an unmarked Craig Halkett at the back post - with the defender showing ice cool composure to tuck the ball away and wrap up a massive three points for the Jambos.
