Match report: Dundee United 0-3 Hearts

03 March 2024

Hearts made it three consecutive clean sheet victories on Sunday, with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Dundee United at Foundation Park.

Eva Olid made three changes for the trip to the City of Discovery. Rachael Johnstone replaced Charlotte Parker-Smith in goal, Addie Handley replaced Jenna Penman at left-back and Sade Adamolekun replaced Megan Bell in midfield.

The hard work was all done in the first half by the Jambos and after taking the lead on 5 minutes, thanks to Emma Brownlie, they never really looked back.

Kate Mooney looked to have a good shout for a penalty, but as the shouts were waved away, the ball was worked wide to Brownlie on the right touchline, she cut inside, before lofting the ball delicately over Megan Sidey and into the far corner of the net to open the scoring.

It was 2-0 just nine minutes later. The Jambos were dominating possession and after a neat move involving just about everyone in a maroon jersey, Erin Rennie picked out Danni Findlay, she turned sharply inside the box and curled the ball into the bottom corner.

Hearts kept their foot to the floor and despite Kate Mooney being denied by a fantastic save from Sidey, as well as the foot of the post, Brownlie popped up with the third goal on the half hour mark.

It was another excellent diagonal switch from Lizzie Waldie to pick out the Hearts number four and she made a strong connection with the ball to bullet a header past Sidey and wrap up all three points in rapid time.

After the interval, the game continued in a similar fashion, with Hearts completely dominating possession and United working hard out of possession.

Mooney deserved a goal for her performance, but it continued to prove elusive and just as she looked to be through on goal, Sidey was quick off her line to clear the danger.

Substitute Georgia Timms came closest to adding a fourth in the final minutes and after linking up with fellow sub Cailin Michie, her header fell just the wrong side of the post.

The home side worked hard throughout, throwing their bodies on the line as legs tired towards the end, but just like it was at Oriam in August, the Jambos ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.
