Forrest: Happy to contribute

07 February 2024

After being awarded the cinch Premiership Player of the Month Award for January, Alan Forrest admits he’s more focused on helping the team on a collective front, as the Jambos prepare to take on St Johnstone.

Forrest is beginning to establish himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet this season and after providing four assists in January, the winger insists he is just enjoying contributing for a team that is fine form.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Forrest said:

“It’s nice for me to get the award and get recognised personally, but the main thing for me is being able to help the team and contributing with a few assists and obviously managing to get the goal at the weekend, so that’s been good.

“Recently, I’ve had a more consistent run in the team, so for me, when I get the opportunity in games, it’s always been the same, whether it be now, or when I first joined the club, it’s about taking the opportunity and making sure I add something to the team when I’m picked.”

The come from behind victory at Dens Park means it’s now nine games unbeaten for the men in maroon, who have taken 25 points from their last 27 available and Forrest explains that all over the park, Hearts are improving.

“The team is playing well, which has also been a big help to me," he added.

“You’ve got Lawrence at the top end of the pitch, who is scoring all the goals. He has been fantastic. We have defended well as a team, we are getting the ball in the middle and playing through the lines. That comes down to the staff and the things they have had us working on all season.

“We had a bit of a slow start to the season, but we have stuck with it. Our game plan has always been the same and it’s a big credit to the staff and all the players for what we’re doing.

“You can’t take anything lightly though, if you start thinking too far ahead, it can come back and bite you, so we need to stay focused and take one game at a time and if we continue to do that, then we will be looking to take as many points as we can.”
