Angus Beith: Gaz would be proud

11 November 2025

Angus Beith dedicated the B Team's 1-0 victory at Kelty Hearts to Gary Kirk, saying it's what the club hero would have loved to have seen.

Everyone at the club was rocked by the news of Gary's tragic passing earlier in the day, with most of the current B Team squad having worked with Gaz during his long association with the Jambos.

After an emotional team talk before the game, the B Team boss hailed his young side for their professional performance in Fife.

"It was devastating news for us today," he told the Official Hearts Website.

"A lot of the boys and staff were really close to Gaz and it was horrible to hear. I think the boys did him proud today with their performance and result.

He was was never happier than when I saw him with the B Team. We managed to get a result and a good performance, so I'm delighted that we could do that for him. The result itself was really pleasing because it gave us an opportunity as well to potentially move to the next round."

Everyone will have a cherished memory of Gary, or a tale of one his withering one-liners that could reduce a dressing room to tears of laughter in seconds.

Angus had one of his own, and paid tribute to someone who was a proper Hearts man, and never let anything other than his deeply rooted passion for Heart of Midlothian to shine through.

"He was one of those guys who would just say it how it is," said Angus.

"One of my favourite memories of Gaz is how, as a game would go on, he would creep closer and closer to the touchline and really come to life.

"He would just get more and more passionate. Gaz was just desperate for the boys to do well, desperate to support them and help them in any way he could. You could see that passion every single day in him."

That one was for you, Gaz.
