Heart of Midlothian Football Club is delighted to announce that Michael Smith has signed a contract extension.
The fans’ favourite will continue to pull on the maroon jersey for the next 18-months after penning a deal through to 2022.
With 14 Northern Ireland caps to his name, Michael is one of the most experienced players in the Robbie Neilson’s squad. He joined Hearts after leaving Peterborough United in 2017.
Solid in defense and prone to a marauding run down the channel, his performances at right-back quickly endeared him to the Jambos support and caught the eye of his country as he firmly established himself as a Northern Ireland regular.
To date the 32-year-old has made 121 appearances for Hearts and has five goals, of which more than a few have been screamers.
Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, the Manager said: “I’m really pleased that Michael has agreed a contract extension.
“Michael’s a really important player for us and a top player too. He has a wealth of experience and is an international standard player, which is great for the club.
“He’s been a mainstay from when he joined Hearts and I’ve really enjoyed working with him since I’ve come in, and I know he’s a player the younger guys look up to as well.”
