The 22-year-old defender joins the club from the college football system in America and has signed a deal until the end of the season.
After a successful club and high school career in Pennsylvania, Brill-Edwards went on to play for the College of Charleston in 2015, where she became captain in 2018 as a senior. With the ability to play as defender or on the wing, Brill-Edwards is a fantastic addition to Andy Enwood’s squad as they look to secure promotion from SWPL 2.
Speaking to heartsfc.co.uk, Maddy explained the reasons behind her decision to cross the pond:
“I’d been looking around for a while and thought I was going to be passed up… but it worked out, I said ‘okay - Scotland!’ Everything that I heard about the team and the club sounded fantastic.
“There seems to be a lot of development coming up and it’s really exciting to be a part of. Helping the team get into the next division would be amazing. Honestly, I’m just so happy to be here and playing!
“I was talking with my coaches back home, that played college soccer back in the 2000s, and they didn’t have these opportunities to come abroad and travel. The team have been so welcoming, I’m adjusting to the accent… I’m getting there!”
Maddy could make her debut this Sunday when Hearts Women face Hibs Ladies in the fourth round of the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup at Oriam. The game kicks off at 3:30pm with tickets available at the gate.
