Joel Pereira believes he’s arrived at Hearts more ready than he’s ever been to try and stake a claim for the No.1 jersey.
The Portuguese U21 cap has joined the Jam Tarts on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United and trained with his new teammates this morning for the first time.
Already impressed by what he’s seen, the 23-year-old is looking forward to the competition to get between the Tynecastle sticks, insisting he’s raring to go.
Speaking to HeartsTV, Joel said: “I am very happy to be here. The team welcomed me very well, and the staff. I’m pleased to be here and I’m looking forward to getting started.
“I spoke with the staff at Manchester United and the idea was for me to get out there on loan and get as many minutes as I can. Hopefully it will be good here and I will fight to get as many minutes as I can here.
“Wherever I’ve been, the GK union – as we call it – has been great and special and I hope that will be the same here. I’m sure it will and I’m looking forward to making that great team spirit and great GK union.
“It’s obviously always good to have competition as long as there is respect between all of us while we are teammates and we will all be fighting for the same spot. Then the decision is with the manager.
“I’m fitter than ever. I knew that I was going on loan so I knew that I had to be sharp and be ready for whatever was coming up. I didn’t know when I would go out on loan so I knew that I had to be ready to get started. Now I’m here, fitter than ever and I’m hungry for more and can’t wait to get started.”
