Penrice loving life at Hearts
27 November 2024James Penrice says he's loving being involved in big games every few days in a maroon jersey and admits that European football was a huge factor in his Tynecastle switch.
The left back joined from Livingston in the summer and has been one of the Jambos' most consistent performers this season and Penrice himself admits that with a good pre-season under his belt, he's starting to produce his 'best game'.
Speaking to the media at the Jan Breydel Stadium ahead of Hearts' UEFA Conference League match against Cercle Brugge, Penrice said:
"Playing where I was last year and then coming here and playing on big European nights, it's been good. I've said it before, I think the big games every couple of days and then playing in Europe, it was a massive attraction and I'm just glad I'm doing it.
"It's just every game as it comes really. It'll be the same, we'll look towards Sunday after this game, but the focus is on tomorrow and going and putting three points on the board.
"I said it before I signed, I can come in and make an impact. I think I've done that. I've had a pre-season, so I feel I'm getting up to my best game and I can keep showing people what I can do."
The left back is already endearing himself to the Hearts fans, so much so that he's involved in the latest chant from the stands...
"I got sent the song a couple of times yesterday, Penrice smiled. "So it's always good. It's probably the first song I've got. It's more for my family, it's stuff that they can look at and be proud of.
"The fans are going to be here and they're going to be loud. Even in the airport today, the airport was full of Hearts fans. That's what we want. We want the backing, and we need to go and show that we can go and get a result.
“Every game should be the same. You should want to win. Whether there's 15,000 Hearts fans there or 5,000 Hearts fans, you should want to go and win games. There's a belief from us and a demand from ourselves that we can go and do that.”
