Naismith: More To Come

04 March 2024

Steven Naismith believes there’s even more to come from his Hearts team following a statement 2-0 victory over Celtic.

The Jambos sunk the defending champions in Gorgie thanks to Jorge Grant’s first half penalty and Lawrence Shankland’s second-half strike.

Naismith highlighted the importance of two key factors behind the win: the confidence and composure of his team – and the backing of a thunderous Tynecastle atmosphere,

“It was good. I’ve said from the start that we need to compete more in these games. We’ll win some, we’ll lose some, but as long as we come off the pitch showing that we’ve been in the game,” he told the Hearts TV panel after the game.

“Before any of the incidents in the game, we gave as good as we got. We dealt with it brilliantly today and did everything right.

“The midfield was intelligent. We asked the wingbacks to be really aggressive and then looked for the calmness when we had the ball. It was 2-0 but could have been more.

“We’re a good group. We’re learning and getting better. Performances like this are good but this feeling needs to become normal. In the last 15 games, we’ve been on a good run and lost once. We’re in a good place but still more to come.

“The atmosphere was great. Tynecastle’s an intimidating place, a brilliant place to play football. A good day and a good end to a busy week. We’ve now got a full week to prepare before another big one in the cup.”
