Hearts put three past Falkirk without reply this afternoon to bag another pre-season friendly victory.
Liam Boyce put the Jambos ahead going into half time, before Jamie Walker and Craig Wighton rounded off the afternoon’s exploits.
Robbie Neilson fielded the same starting XI that swept aside East Fife last week, with places on the bench for Peter Haring and Steven Naismith.
Hearts dominated the early proceedings, with Falkirk keeper Robbie Mutch doing well to tip Jordan Roberts’ close-range volley over the bar before seeing Olly Lee’s header sail into his arms.
Roberts was involved again on the quarter hour mark, hitting a first-time shot after Elliott Frear beat two men on the left to cross but his shot flew narrowly wide.
Walker was net to try his luck, cutting inside from the left before bending a right-foot shot wide of the target.
Lee smashed a brace of chances over the bar, with Falkirk’s Aidan Connolly dragging a shot from outside of the box wide of Craig Gordon’s left-hand post.
With a minute of the half remaining, Hearts took the lead. Roberts chased a ball down on the left and drilled a cross into the six-yard box for Boyce to slide in and divert past the keeper.
Falkirk made more of a fist of it in the second half, with Connolly hitting a fresh air shot after being picked out at the back door by Callumn Morrison, then the former Hearts winger had the ball in the back of the net but was flagged for offside.
Haring and Naismith were introduced as the half wore on, with both making their presence felt.
Lee and substitute Josh Ginnelly saw a series of shots fly over the bar, before fellow sub Ross Stewart made a great fingertip save to push Robbie Leitch’s curling effort onto the post.
Leitch would rattle the post again after 74 minutes, then a minute later it was 2-0. Ginnelly tore down the right to cross into the box and Walker hit a snapshot past Mutch and into the back of the net.
The Jambos were awarded a penalty with eight minutes remaining when Craig Halkett went for Ginnelly’s corner and received a boot to the head. Wighton stepped up from the spot and sent Mutch the wrong way.
There was still time for Morrison to drag an effort wide of the target, before Connor Smith fired over the bar from outside of the box to bring to an end another successful run out for Neilson’s men.
