Brownlie: Squad is buzzing
25 May 2024Emma Brownlie admits the feel-good factor is very much present around the Jambos squad as they prepare to take on Rangers in Sunday’s Scottish Cup Final.
Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Brownlie said:
“We’re really looking forward to it. It’s a great occasion for the club. A first Scottish Cup Final. We’ve got a young squad with a lot of young players in it, this will be their first taste of it, so as a squad, we’re buzzing for it.
“We’re the underdogs going into this game, everyone knows that, and I think that does relieve a lot of the pressure from the players. But going into a cup final, anything can happen.
“Rangers have had the upper hand against us this season, but the 1-0 victory against them a few weeks ago that gives us a bit of belief and confidence and that’s exactly what you need going into these sorts of games.
“The pressure is on them. We go into this game with no pressure on us at all and that’s something that can work for us, but that recent victory over them definitely adds a bit of belief to our squad heading into this game.
“It would be huge for the club. We’ve finished fourth again in the league, which was a great achievement, but going on to lift the Scottish Cup would just be a great end to the season.
“We’ve got a bit of everything in our squad. We’ve got a lot of younger players, but also more experienced like myself and Ciara Grant, who have played in finals and have won things, they’re important. But the youngsters are too, as there’s no fear there going into a cup final, that’s just what they’re like.
“As a group, we’ve got a great mix in there and everyone is just looking forward to the game.”
