Hearts Host Royal Scots Exhibition

14 June 2024

Heart of Midlothian is delighted to announce that it will be hosting a new exhibition by The Royal Scots at Tynecastle Park.  The exhibition will take place in the European Executive Suite in the club's Main Stand on McLeod Street from July 5th to 10th 2024.

As the club celebrates its 150th anniversary year, the exhibition provides a poignant reminder of the supreme sacrifice made by the 1914 Hearts first team who volunteered to join the 16th Battalion of the Royal Scots, famously known as McCrae’s Battalion.

The story of McCrae’s Battalion is central to an exhibition that explores the history of the Regiment and its enduring links to Hearts and to communities across Edinburgh.

Visitors will learn more about the Regiment’s sporting and campaign history and hear stories of local soldiers.  Experts will be on hand to help visitors to research their own family connections and medals.

Hearts' Head of Heritage, Lianne Parry commented: “The club has forged deep and enduring links with The Royal Scots.  It is wholly appropriate in our Sesquicentennial Year that we should highlight one of the most historically important episodes in Hearts’ long and rich history.

We hope that visitors will take advantage of their visit to the stadium, to call in at the club’s own Museum which will be open throughout.

Colonel Martin Gibson of The Royal Scots commented: “Thanks to Hearts, our Regimental Museum in Edinburgh Castle will be reaching out to and engaging with the people of Edinburgh about our unique heritage and in particular McCrae’s Battalion”.

The Exhibition takes place from the 5th to the 10th July 2024 and is free to attend.  Exhibition hours are 10:00 to 16:30.
