Robbie: Team hungry for wins

21st October 2021

Robbie Neilson has praised the hunger of his players ahead of Saturday’s encounter with Dundee.

The manager has been suitably impressed with the way his squad have carried themselves through an unbeaten start to the season, which incorporates all nine cinch Premiership matches.

Eyeing top spot come full time on Saturday, Robbie believes there is a good mix between youth and experience in his squad and the only way to keep the positive vibes going is by winning more games.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: “It is a big carrot (to go top of the league). We spoke about it after the game at Ibrox. Rangers don’t play until Sunday so it gives us the chance to put a wee marker down.

“There are a few qualities impressing me but if we’re picking one then I’d say they’re hungry.

“We’ve got a group of guys that whether they’re young guys hungry in their career to do well or whether it’s senior ones that are hungry to continue and get success. It’s a good group here.

“You maintain that (atmosphere) by continuing to win games. It’s easy when we’re winning, it’ll be when we have a wee knock that you have to pick them back up again.

“The spirit is good. We’ve got a group of young guys that want to do well for the club and a group of senior ones who have got that experience that help them on their way.

“It kind of ebbs and flows a wee bit throughout the season. You’ll have wee ups and downs. At the moment the players are winning games and they’re in a good place.

“We have got a good group of senior players. We’ve got Craig Gordon, Michael Smith, Liam Boyce, guys like that who have been in situations before and going to big venues that put pressure on them and they’ve handled it.

“It helps the younger ones as well. It’s quite a humble group we’ve got. They all want to do well, which is important.”
