Academy to host Football 4s Festival

22nd October 2015

Over 120 youngsters will take part in a special Football 4s festival at the club's academy this Sunday.

Sunday afternoon will see a host of grassroots clubs and teams migrate to the Hearts Football Academy at Riccarton to participate in a special DPS Group supported Football 4s festival.

Teams from Edinburgh, the Lothians, Scottish Borders and Fife will meet at the academy to participate in an afternoon of non-stop matches which will guarantee goals, skills, excitement and celebrations.

This festival has been developed for the 2008s age group (6-7 years of age) which will host 120 excitable young players, 40 coaches and over 250 parents/carers on the newly resurfaced 3G surface.

All the teams attending on the day are from Scottish FA Quality Mark clubs and include Melrose, Pencaitland, Tranent Colts, Longniddry Villa, KSQ, North Merchiston, Arniston Rangers, Bonnyrigg Rose, Penicuik Athletic, Murieston Untied, Broxburn, Glenrothes and Kennoway.

Alan White, Hearts Head of Community, said: “This is the first of what we hope will be a series of festivals at Hearts which will allow local clubs the opportunity to showcase their efforts whilst providing the kids with the chance to perform in front of a large audience at a state-of-the-art training facility.

“Football 4s is a fantastic format for young players as it provides more touches, decisions and goals plus increased attacking and defending opportunities. We have communicated with the clubs that we want this to be a real ‘spirit of street football’ festival where the kids can be allowed to play with minimal instruction and where mistakes are acceptable. We will also have support from Positive Coaching Scotland on the day who will be liaising with coaches and parents to help provide the best possible environment for everyone in attendance.

“The festival is a great way for us as a professional club to build relationships with grassroots clubs and leaders throughout the south east of the country in a positive way. We would like to thank the DPS Group for getting behind the initiative and we are really looking forward to welcoming everyone to Hearts on Sunday."
