Robbie Neilson has hinted that there may be some room for maneuvering in the January transfer window as the Jambos continue to aim for promotion.
After losing the services of Kevin McHattie for six weeks after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Rangers – a match won without the influential trio of Danny Wilson, Prince Buaben and Osman Sow – Robbie revealed that he’s already looking for the right players to come in next year and boost an already flying team.
Speaking at this morning’s pre-Scottish Cup press conference, Robbie said: “There’s definitely the potential to bring more players in. We’re always looking to add. There will probably be a little bit of movement in the January window, with players maybe going out and coming in.
“We have to be ready and we’re already in the process of scouting and making contact with players that we think can benefit the team.
“I think it won’t have to be a matter of players going out in order to come in. There’s definitely an opportunity to strengthen but again, it has to the right players.
“We have to make sure we get the right character and the right player that’s going to come in and add to the squad.”
The head coach also moved to clarify the club’s position with regards to a new contract for Buaben, after speculation that a deal had been all but penned.
“There’s been contact with his agent”, he stated. “Prince is happy here and that’s as far as it really went. Its something we’ll probably deal with in January.
“The report said that the deal was nearly done; there’s still a long way to go. We have to make sure that he’s happy and we’re happy about the footballing side of things, and he’s been doing great. It’s just the other aspects of his contract that we need to deal with.”
Scottish Premiership champions Celtic visit Gorgie for Sunday’s William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round match, and it could be good news on the injury front.
“Prince is fine,” Robbie revealed. “He was just ill, so he’ll be back. He’s trained right through this week. Danny’s training today as well so I’ll make a judgment on him nearer the time. Osman is still struggling a little bit with his thigh so we’ll see how he goes over the next few days.”
