Hearts U20s earned a point away to Rangers in their opening Development League match of the season last night.
The Wee Jambos raced into a two-goal lead at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium in Dumbarton, before being pegged back by two late goals from the hosts.
Player Development Manager Jack Ross was able to call on experienced players Kevin McHattie and Kenny Anderson to compliment his youthful side, which also included Jack Hamilton, Jordan McGhee and Gary Oliver.
Hearts took the lead after only four minutes, when trialist Wilson Carvalho netted the rebound from Anderson’s effort off the post.
Just after the hour mark it was 2-0. Oliver weaved into the box, evading the home defence, to drill into the bottom corner.
With ten minutes remaining Rangers halved the deficit. Ryan Hardie latched onto a through ball to slot beyond Hamilton.
Heartbreakingly, the home side got back on level terms in the 88th minute. Hardie middled it in the box to find Jamie Brandon, who shot past the ‘keeper and into the back of the net.
A strong start for the Wee Jambos, who will consider themselves unlucky not to take all three points. Up next is a home tie against Kilmarnock next Monday at Ochilview.
