Top marks for Football Academy

Hearts Football Academy given five star status for its sports science department.

Hearts' Football Academy has retained last year's ringing endorsement with another thumbs up from Club Academy Scotland.

The club's Academy has again been awarded top marks in the Club Academy Scotland Sports Science Audit, along with a five star rating for the sport science department.

Club Academy Scotland is a performance based youth football development programme organised and managed by the Scottish FA for clubs in membership of the Scottish Professional Football League.

Speaking to Hearts News, John Murray, Academy Director, said: "It's another wonderful achievement for this club, and in particular the Football Academy, given the circumstances we face.

"The auditors were extremely impressed with the set up, and the fact that our guys are showing initiative. The likes of Dave Sykes, John Hill and others are coming up with programmes and tools that are saving the club thousands of pounds, and at the same time giving the players the very best training available.

"Despite being in administration, we continue to invest in youth development and the Football Academy, be it through time, effort or money that comes in. The Football Academy is the heartbeat of the club and its importance is showing right now at a time when the first team is relying on the players it's produced and the training they receive.

"We'll keep working hard and try and improve further in preparation for future audits."
