Robbie: Good start crucial

15th October 2020

Robbie Neilson wants his players to start the season the way they mean to go on when Dundee visit Tynecastle tomorrow night.

The Jambos host the Dens Park side in the Championship curtain raiser following a productive pre-season campaign after winning five warm up games and emerging victorious in all three Betfred Cup games.

All roads, however, have led to tomorrow night’s encounter in Gorgie, and Robbie knows the importance of hitting the ground running as the men in maroon aim to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the manager said: “It’s been a long time coming and the build up has been towards this.

“The whole pre-season games, the Betfred Cup games, to make sure that we’re ready for this game tomorrow night.

“The players are in a good place, we’ve had three really good results in the Betfred Cup but now it’s into the business end of it.

“This is what we’re here to do, we’re here to try and win the league and it starts tomorrow night.

“We have to make sure that we start off very, very well. Hence the reason we came back in so early, we’ve had so many pre-season games, to give us the best opportunity to start the season well because we know tomorrow night is an opportunity to put a marker down, hopefully get three points, and it sets you up and running.

“Would anything other than promotion be classed as failure? I’d think so, yeah. At the end of the day we’re here to win the league, aren’t we?

“That’s what we’re aiming to do. We’ve said that right from the start and that’s what we hope to do.”
