No S-pain, no gain for Robbie

Manager of the Month Robbie Neilson to learn Spanish as he welcomes Miguel Pallardo to the club.

Robbie Neilson has revealed that the coaching staff will take Spanish lessons in order to help new signing Miguel Pallardo settle into life at Hearts.

The former Valencia man signed on at Tynecastle this morning, and head coach Robbie is wasting no time in trying to get the best out of his capture.

Speaking to the media this morning at the Hearts Football Academy, Robbie said: "We spoke to Miguel and his English isn't great. He's got a little bit of English in him but his agent was doing a lot of translation. Jack Ross knows a little bit of Spanish and a couple of our younger kids speak it as well.

"It's a challenge for us and we're getting a Spanish teacher to come in and help us to learn a bit of the language so we can try and communicate with him. We need to try and learn it to help him.

"We've got the university here and all the facilities to try and learn, so it'll help him to settle in and it'll help us as well in the future."

The Gorgie gaffer - winner of August's SPFL Championship Manager of the Month award - believes having somebody of Miguel's stature around the club will benefit the younger players.

"I'm delighted to get Miguel in," he said. "He's been in training with us for the last week and he's done very well. He's got a lot of experience in La Liga, playing with Levante, Valencia, Getafe and Almeria so he brings a different dimension to the club and to the players.

"He'll be great for the team but also for the young kids progressing to see a guy that's played in La Liga, the experience that he's got, how he plays the game and looks after himself. I'm really pleased."

With Prince Buaben suspended for the Jambos' trip to Dumbarton on Saturday, Robbie has no qualms about throwing the 28-year-old Spaniard straight into proceedings.

"He'll be involved with the squad right-away," he said. "He's not done a lot of pre-season, he's had a personal trainer back in Spain, but it'll take him a week or two to get himself there.

"But a guy with his ability and his experience, it won't take him long to get up to speed."

Robbie's press conference is available to watch in full on HeartsTV.
