Motherwell: Match Preview

29th January 2022

Hearts enter Matchday 24 in the cinch Premiership this afternoon, as we welcome Motherwell to Tynecastle Park. The Steelmen arrive in Gorgie looking to reduce the gap on the third placed Jambos, while Hearts looks to extend it by ten points.

Form Guide:

In the previous five matches played by Robbie Neilson's men; the JTs have lost only once. Picking up three points and cup progress each time, with the exception of Wednesday's defeat to Celtic. Hearts sit in third, seven points clear of fourth-placed Motherwell.

Inconsistency has been an issue for an otherwise talented Motherwell side The men from ML1 have won three of their last five, tasting defeat in Dingwall before being held to a goalless draw at Easter Road. Alexander's side are capable of playing excellent football, but the odd defeat here and there has so far interrupted opportunities to build momentum.

The two sides last each other in Edinburgh in October 2021; a 2-0 win for Hearts after set-piece strikes from Liam Boyce and Stephen Kingsley sealed the points.

What the gaffers have said:

Robbie Neilson

“I expect a really tough game. They’re hard to play against, and dangerous at set-pieces. We need to bring physicality to the game, because I felt like we didn’t have that last time against them at Fir Park,”

Graham Alexander

"For me, the best players will cut the backdrop of the atmosphere out and just focus on what they need to do to win the game."
