Craig to bolster defence

Craig Levein confirms he's looking to bring in another centre-half after Christophe Berra injury sees skipper out for six months

Craig Levein has confirmed he will attempt to add to his squad following Christophe Berra’s injury.

The skipper tore his hamstring in last week’s win over Celtic, resulting in a six-month spell on the sidelines.

Craig will now look to the transfer market to bolster his backline but has revealed the situation isn’t a desperate one, given he has the services of Aaron Hughes at his disposal.

When asked at his pre-match press conference this morning if he would be looking to go out and find another centre-half, Craig replied: “Yes. I’m working on that (bringing in another defender) now.

“I’ll probably need another centre-half for the season, by the time Christophe gets himself back and up to full speed.

“There’s every chance we’ll be looking for a player to come in for the year.

“The situation is not desperate. Aaron came on and did very well against Celtic. He’ll be involved on Saturday.

“I brought Peter Haring in to cover and be part of the defence and that has taken an unexpected turn and he’s cemented his place in midfield, so I need another centre back. Simple as that.

“Christophe is probably taking it better than I am. He’s fairly philosophical about it.

“It’s his first, believe it or not, major injury in what’s been a long and distinguished career.

“It’s a blow. He’s a loss to us, for sure.”
