Craig Levein knows Motherwell’s recent cup exploits means Hearts are in for a tough quarter-final match tomorrow, but hopes home advantage will be a key factor for the Jambos.
The men in maroon meet the Steelmen in the last eight of the Betfred Cup at Tynecastle tomorrow night with a semi-final place at stake.
Having recently faced Motherwell, a match in which Hearts came away with the victory, Craig knows just how difficult the encounter will be but points to his side’s momentum – after starting the season unbeaten in 11 matches – as a big positive.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning, he said: “We’ve got a home tie in the quarter final which, before the draw was made, I was hoping would be the case.
“Obviously, we’ve had recent experience of playing against Motherwell and we know just through experience that it will be a tough match.
“They just play to their strengths and I like that. Every team has their own challenges and the teams who don’t have huge budgets have to find a way of winning matches. Any manager that finds a way of winning is doing his job properly.
“We’ve got a bit of momentum and I think that helps in general, whether we’re playing in this cup competition or whether we’re playing in a league match.
“The boys are feeling good about themselves. The boys are in good form. The players individually are in good form and that helps to win matches.
“Motherwell, last year, had a fantastic record in the cup competitions and we expect a really tough match.”
