Smith: Let's sign off on a high

11 November 2022

David Martindale brings his Lions team to Gorgie for the final cinch Premiership match before football halts for the tournament in Qatar.

The Northern Irishman reckons the break is coming at a good time for the boys in maroon ahead of a crucial second half of the season, but says the focus has to be on three points against Livingston first.

“It’s been fine. There have been some good results and bad results, but I think we’re starting to pick up some form now,” he told the press in his pre-match media conference. “We’ve got one last game before the World Cup and we want to end it on a high.

“The group and coaching staff have been brilliant. The attitude has been spot-on. With the break coming, I think everyone needs a bit of a rest. We’ll come back in December, do a sort of mini pre-season, and then look forward to the rest of the season.

“We know what to expect. You’re always going to be up against it – they’re usually up for it so we need to do the same and go out at Tynecastle and play our game. We’re getting back to it and you can see it within the players.

“Toby was maybe just suffering a lack of confidence. We always knew he was a good player but these last few weeks, he’s been a rock. Natty’s had a few wee injury problems and now he’s back and in the World Cup squad.”
