Robbie hails Humps' "Goal of the Season"

The Jambos opened up a seven point gap with fourth place this afternoon courtesy of strikes from Lawrence Shankland and Alex Cochrane, with Humphrys scoring from his own-half to cap off a fine days work for Hearts.

And the Hearts boss was happy to declare Humps' strike as the best of the season after watching his side pick up a massive three points.

"A huge three points. A team that's fighting for survival at the bottom of the league is always going to be a difficult opponent. They showed their quality as well, especially in the early stages of the game," he told Hearts TV. "I thought we started the game poorly, and clearly the sending off has a big bearing on the game. It allowed us to take control and get the right result.

"It was an outstanding goal, but we know Stevie's quality and that he's got finishes like that within him. The first part sums him up to a tee; the pace and power to get away from the defenders. The finish is just sensational. I think time slowed down slightly, for everyone in the stadium. It'll be goal of the season, that's for sure."

The men in maroon got back to winning ways in style following last week's 3-0 defeat at the hands of Rangers. The manager praised his team for showing character and desire to seal the win, especially in the wake of Steven Fletcher's first-half opener.

Ryan Edwards sending off for a challenge on Andy Halliday helped turn the tide, but the boss knows that it was a gutsy display from Hearts to go on to secure the precious points.

"The most important thing is three points, especially on Big Hearts day," he explained. "We put on a performance and hopefully the fans have left happy. We move onto Friday now.

"Once they went down to ten men, we changed the shape a wee bit to try and take control of the game. The subs gave us some more attacking threat, bringing Alex on got us higher up the park, and with Jorge coming in as well. It was more all-out and going for the win. It's what playing at Hearts is all about. You have to give it all and leave everything out on the pitch.

"At times, we can be an intense environment to play in. You have to handle that and keep giving 100% and making tackles and runs forward. To the players' credit, they did that today."
