Match Report: HMWFC 0-3 GCFC

22 June 2023

Eva Olid made three changes to the side that drew with Motherwell at the weekend. Addison Handley, Rebecca McAllister, and Monica Forsyth replaced Jenna Penman, Aimee Anderson, and Katie Rood.

In a first half of few chances, largely due to the conditions, the visitors took the lead after 14 minutes. Emily Whelan received the ball on the edge of the box and her curling effort opened the scoring.

Hearts limited the visitors to very little for the remainder of the half and would’ve felt aggrieved to be behind at the break.

Much like they did against Celtic at Oriam ten days ago, Hearts were fast out the blocks in the second half and gave City much more to think about.

Georgia Timms came closest on 65 minutes when she got on the end of Ciara Grant’s free-kick and forced Lee Gibson into a fingertip save.

Hearts continued to threaten and when Handley’s sweet diagonal pass from the left picked out Emma Brownlie, her effort went agonisingly wide.

Just a minute later, City doubled their lead against the run of play. The visitors had looked dangerous from set pieces all game and a corner from the left found it’s way into the bottom corner, after a couple of ricochets, with Jenna Clark appearing to get the final touch.

Five minutes from time, City added a third after Lauren Davidson converted from the penalty spot.

The final scoreline of 3-0 was a harsh one on the team, who fought hard but will now be looking to bounce back against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
