Match Report: GWFC 0-3 HMWFC

03 May 2023

Eva Olid made five changes for the trip to Glasgow Women, as Jennifer Currie made her debut in goal meanwhile Jenna Penman, Jennifer Smith, Katie Rood, and Shona Cowan also came into the starting line-up.

It was clear from the off that Glasgow were happy to sit deep and soak up Hearts pressure, but the Jambos got the opening goal after just five minutes when after a brilliant save from Shannon Burgon denied Katie Rood, Emma Brownlie was on hand to bundle the ball home from the resulting corner.

After that early goal, it was looking like a question of how many for Hearts, but after a brilliant last-ditch block denied Georgia Timms after 15 minutes, Glasgow restricted to Hearts to very little in terms of clear-cut opportunities, however going forward they posed Hearts virtually no threat.

Into the second half, and the game continued in a similar fashion. Hearts were dominating the ball, but not really creating anything noteworthy with it.

The Jambos squandered a brilliant opportunity to double their lead ten minutes into the second half when Katie Rood was brought down in the box, she dusted herself down, but saw her spot kick saved by Burgon.

Brownlie almost grabbed her second of the afternoon when rising highest to meet a Ciara Grant corner, but her header came back off the crossbar.

Hearts finally added a second seven minutes from time when Grant curled a free kick from wide left into the top corner.

Gwen Davies added the icing on the cake in stoppage time after making ground down the left, she cut inside and lashed the ball past Burgon to make it 3-0 with the game’s final action.
