Steven MacLean has made a career out of scoring goals but he insists as long as Hearts keep winning then he doesn’t care who gets them.
The striker was on impressive form at Dens Park last night, scoring the third in a comprehensive 3-0 win over Dundee.
He was made to wait for his fifth goal of the season, however, after a dominant first-half showing from the Jambos saw him hit the crossbar and denied by a great Jack Hamilton save.
Less than 60 seconds into the restart he slid home Callumn Morrison cutback to put Hearts on easy street, and although he says he want to keep scoring, he’s just happy to see the team keep on winning.
“When I hit the bar I thought somebody was going to come out and press and it looked like I had all the time in the world,” he told HeartsTV. “I was going to slip Cal in and I seen Jack and tried to just reverse dink it to the back post.
“It looked in all the way…I don’t know if the wind blew it!
“I just saw it coming down and hitting the bar and I thought ‘is it going to be one of those nights?’
“Especially when Jack saved my second chance, I thought ‘jeez, its it going to be one of them?’
“Fortunately Cal picked me out in the second half and I got a tap in. They’re the ones that I like!
“You do get frustrated if you go games without scoring but you know what? If the gaffer keeps picking you then you’re doing something right.
“I want to score goals, I’m not going to lie, I do want to get more but it’s all about the team.
“The team is winning; I’m happy. First and foremost I’m a team player.
“We want to win every game and I want to be part of that. If I can get a goal along the way then I’ll be happy.
“I’m delighted with the three points and we’re looking forward to Sunday now.”
