WHEC pupils commemorate Christmas truce game

9th December 2014

Robbo joins school kids in Christmas truce re-enactment.

They took part in a football match this morning, complete with soldier’s uniforms and a vintage leather football, to commemorate the one hundred years anniversary of the truce, with McCrae’s Battalion ambassador Robbo watching from the sidelines.

Stuart Sinclair, curriculum leader of Social Subjects, said: “The pupils have been genuinely moved by the stories of sacrifice made by so many footballers in the Great War, and have been very engaged in this cross curricular project.

“The football game is a fitting way to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Christmas truce.”
