We want to win it for the fans

26th April 2019

Bobby Burns revealed that he and his teammates want to win the Edinburgh Derby on Sunday to give Hearts fans' bragging rights over their local rivals.

"Even to the players as well, it means a lot too," Bobby said. "We're fairly aware of what's riding on it. We do a lot of events with fans and supporters.

"We want to win it for them too, as much as for ourselves. We want to give them the bragging rights coming into the end of the season."

The 19-year-old has been a mainstay for Hearts this month following injuries to fellow left-backs Demetri Mitchell and Ben Garuccio and has impressed in his debut season.

"It's been a rollercoaster of a first season. I had to patient when I came back from Livingston with the injury, but it's been fantastic recently just to get a chance and hopefully I can keep playing."

Bobby made his full league debut against Hibs at Tynecastle earlier this month, in a game that ended 2-1 to the visitors.

"I've played a few derbies back in Northern Ireland but nothing to the magnitude of the Edinburgh derby. It was a terrific atmosphere and a fantastic experience.

"I was devastated to lose the game, but it was a great atmosphere for me. They're the kind of games you want to play in, that was why I came to Hearts, to get those opportunities. If we could get the win on Saturday, it'll make it all the more special."

Hibs are on good form at the moment and are yet to lose in the league under new manager Paul Heckingbottom. Despite that, the Northern Irishman is confident they can once again leave Easter Road with 3 points.

"In derbies, form goes out the window a bit. The one I played in recently was hammer and tong. We probably played a little bit better than they did but they were more clinical and that's what we need to work on going into Sunday. They've played well and it'll be a tough game but if we play as best as we can we're capable of winning it.
