First Team

Up for the fight

20th December 2019

Daniel Stendel doesn’t mind how his Hearts team plays at Hamilton Accies tomorrow as long as they win the game.

The Jambos head to the Fountain of Youth Stadium looking for three points and to begin climbing the Ladbrokes Premiership table.

The manager knows how tight a match it could be, given both clubs’ league positions, and he wants his players to have the right mentality for what is a crucial encounter.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Daniel said: “The big goal for tomorrow is that we win the game.

“It doesn’t matter if we play our best game or we fight or it’s a scrappy game, it’s a difficult game and we need to invest it all so that we can win this game.

“I expect a hard game for us and a close game, especially with my experience from the St Johnstone game.

“It’s special, the situation for both clubs. We need the right mentality to play this game and I expect that we play better than last Saturday.

“This is important in every game, with more ideas to play in possession because I think we will have more of the ball than we did against Celtic.

“We need to expect a hard fight and have the right mentality for this game tomorrow.

“Normally games between teams at the bottom of the table are about fighting for every point. The goal from us is to take the three points to Edinburgh.”

With players on the verge of returning from injury, Daniel revealed that Steven Naismith could be involved, however Jamie Brandon will be absent after injuring his ankle against Celtic.

“I hope Naisy can come back into the squad tomorrow,” he said. “Christophe is suspended. I hope every other player (who is not injured) can play tomorrow. We train today and then I’ll decide about Jake after training.

“Jamie Brandon is not fit for tomorrow. He’ll have a scan then we’ll know more but at the moment we only know that he has a big ankle!”
