U20s sink saints

4th December 2013

Wee Jambos put St Johnstone to the sword with a 4-2 victory at Newtongrange last night.

Hearts U20s continued their recent good run with a fine 4-2 win over St Johnstone last night.

The Wee Jambos ran out comprehensive winners at Newtongrange as Robbie Neilson's boys made it three wins in a row.

Hearts fielded a team that included the entire bench from Sunday's William Hill Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic, while Sam Nicholson, Angus Beith, Liam Gordon and Liam Smith completed a strong line up.

It was midfielder Beith who opened the scoring on 14 minutes with a wonderful curling free-kick from around 22 yards out.

12 minutes later Hearts doubled their lead when Billy King sprung the offside trap and chipped the Saints 'keeper from the edge of the box.

The visitors pulled one back in the 36th minute when Brad McKay was judged to have handled in the box, and Rory Fallon made no mistake from the spot.

Robbie's lads went 3-1 up after 57 minutes following a well worked move between Billy King and Dale Carrick, which culminated in Nicholson slamming home from six yards with an overhead kick.

The elder King brother bagged his second goal of the match on 68 minutes with a drilled shot into the far corner of the net.

Saints' Liam Caddis pulled another goal back with six minutes remaining, however the Wee Jambos held out to record another victory against a team who, at the time, topped the U20s league.
