Hearts U20s suffered a 4-3 defeat away to Ross County in Wednesday afternoon's Development League encounter in Dingwall.
Hearts fielded a young side against a County side with five over-age players. County began the better side as Hearts struggled to find their men, and duly took advantage by opening the scoring on 12 minutes from a needlessly conceded penalty kick.
Dylan Dykes put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot before Chris Routis doubled their lead with a free header on 22 minutes.
From then on in, however, Hearts dominated the play and may have pulled a goal back before half-time.
The Wee Jambos then lost two further goals within ten minutes of the second half, with Chris Hamilton adjudged to have fouled Tony Dingwall in the box, leaving Dykes to score his second from the penalty spot.
On 56 minutes Ross McIver netted from close range to grab the hosts' 4th goal.
Hamilton then pulled a goal back on 62 minutes following a Harry Paton corner, and on 71 minutes Dario Zanatta latched onto an Angus Beith through ball and fired home a shot from just inside the box.
Hearts battered the County defence with the 'keeper having a few fine stops and two further efforts cleared off the line as County were restricted to the occasional breakaway.
In time added on, Beith scored Hearts third goal with a delicate free kick from 20 yards out.
