Rico Quitongo has joined Hearts’ U20s side until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old becomes part of Andy Kirk’s development squad after leaving Hamilton Academical at the start of the year.
The left-back came through the ranks at Accies and made four appearances for the Colts side in the Irn-Bru Cup.
He’s spent the past few weeks training at Riccarton and has done enough to secure a six-month deal, though Kirk has challenged him to go on and win a longer contract.
Speaking to heartsfc.co.uk, the U20s coach said: “That side of the pitch has been a wee bit of an issue in terms of the amount of players we have who can play on the left.
“Rico’s athletic, he’s come into the group and mixed well. He’s played against most of the boys at younger age groups so they know a bit about him and have good things to say.
“He’s trained very well, his attitude’s been great and he’s worked very hard. I think he’s worthy of an opportunity but now the hard work begins for Rico. He’s got between now and the end of the season to prove he's worthy of another contract at Hearts."
