Alexandros Tziolis marked his first start for Hearts with a goal as his classy performance helped earn a fine 3-0 win away at Motherwell on Saturday.
The Greek international played the full 90 minutes and got the opener with a deflected long-range effort as he, along with fellow January addition Isma Goncalves, hit the back of the net.
After the match, the former PAOK star admitted his surprise at how well Ian Cathro’s January signings had managed to gel in such a short space of time.
“It is not normal for players to gel so quickly. The first days can be difficult, trying to get everybody together, but it has been a pleasant surprise for us.
“There are a lot of new players here but we all feel very comfortable together. And that is good.
“Everybody in the team is happy with another three points. It has been a good week and we are delighted with another win.”
Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash with Hibs, Alex revealed how much he was looking forward to the encounter as he explained what a derby match means to him, and how he approaches them.
“I know it is a big game on Sunday so I hope these experiences will help us to show the same attitude and get the win. To be honest, I don’t feel so much pressure any more.
“For me, these are games to enjoy. They are for players who want to show the quality they have. It’s more like that, than thinking about pressure.
“Of course, but it is not only about me. The whole team has to be 100 per cent concentrated and make a good game.”
Lastly, Tziolis assured supporters that he and the team knew exactly what they were getting into ahead of the Scottish Cup Fifth Round tie with their city rivals.
“In the last game against Rangers, the team played very well against a good opponent and a big team. So I hope on Sunday there is the same atmosphere and the same type of game.
“I understand what matters in these matches. I’ve only been here for three or four days but already everyone has been speaking to me and telling me how important this game is. I feel it. I feel it.”
