Sam Nicholson insists that he isn't focusing on results too much this pre-season as he gets stuck in to the toughest training schedule he's ever undertaken.
The Scotland U19 winger has featured in all three of the Jambos' pre-season friendlies so far and although every match has been a close encounter, he's not getting bogged down with the final score - as long as progress is being made on the park.
Speaking to HeartsTV at the launch of the Gorgie Club jazz night for the Manchester City game, Sam said: "It's definitely hard going. It's the most tiring pre-season I've ever done, with double sessions and all the runs, but it's going to stand us in good stead.
"It took a while for us to get into the game against Hamilton Accies but it was only the third game into pre-season. Everybody isn't at their full sharpness and fitness. Right now, the score isn't really what matters, as long as we're getting game time and fitness through which I think we are.
"We're hoping to get a few wins through the pre-season games but at the end of the day it's not really about winning, it's about getting fitness and game-sharpness. Everyone's just looking forward to getting the season started.
"The stuff that Robbie wants us to do will come with the fitness and the game-sharpness. We're all making sure that we stay patient just now. There's no point getting upset about not being fit and sharp just now, it's just going to play on our minds.
"I think it's gone well so far and we're looking forward to the next few games."
