John Souttar is looking to kick-start Hearts' season with three points at Rugby Park tomorrow afternoon.
The central defender returned to fitness ahead of schedule following a serious injury back in January but was rested for last Saturday’s league opener at Celtic Park.
The Jambos head to Rugby Park on Saturday in search of a first win of the season, safe in the knowledge they will be back by at least 1,500 Hearts fans. John is hoping he and his teammates can claim their first 3 points of the campaign in Ayrshire.
“We need to win games, it’s as simple as that. Unfortunately we didn’t get any points last Saturday so we need to put it right against Kilmarnock,” he said.
“From a personal perspective, I’m not expecting to come back and be on top form straight away. I need minutes on the pitch, it was obviously a massive injury I had so it’s important I give myself time to get back to where I was.”
Interim Head Coach Jon Daly will have the final say on whether John is involved on Saturday but also has decisions to make in other areas of the pitch. He chose to include youngsters Jamie Brandon and Lewis Moore in the starting eleven at Celtic Park and John feels both players did themselves proud.
“Both of them did exceptionally well. They played under Jon with the U20s so he obviously knows what their capable of and I think they both repaid the faith he showed in them.”
